3:30 PM - 5:00 PM    Outdoor Learners - April 2024
The goal of this program is to get kids back outdoors while using their imagination and creativity to care for nature, create projects using simple materials, garden, and prepare no-cook foods. Gathering at the Swift River pavilion, we will do simple hands-on science projects, grow plants, follow no-cook recipes, craft, and learn basic skills to be prepared and resourceful. June - Make first aid kits and learn some basic first aid, make and use a compass, combine ingredients to make your own trail mix and energy bars, make solar oven s'mores, relax in a camping tent, work in the school garden, and cool off under the sprinkler. July - Craft miniature cabins with sticks, make an insect viewer, collect some insects from the school garden and inspect them with a magnifying glass. Make iced hot chocolate and learn the history behind the drink. Wear an ice cube necklace to beat the heat and cook up some sun tea in the sun. Make solar oven s'mores, relax in a camping tent, work in the school garden, and cool off under the sprinkler. August -  Make your own super bubble solution and see if you can stand in a bubble. Make twig and pinecone people, make and sail a twig raft,  and tie knots to make friendship bracelets with your new friends. Sessions will be held in the Swift River cafeteria during inclement weather.   Children will need a note from home to stay after school and gather in the pickup area.  Children are asked to bring a water bottle and snack.   Children will always need to be dressed and prepared for the outdoor weather. School nurse/school staff are not present for this after school program.

The Belchertown Running Club is designed for the beginner runners with no prior experience needed.  This program offers  proper stretching and breathing techniques to safely run at the beginner level. Everyone will need to come to practice with comfortable attire, sneakers, and a water bottle.This program will be held outdoors rain or shine at the  Chestnut Hill/Swift River School area.  Depending on in climate weather, makeup dates may be held on Saturdays or Sunday.Children will need a note from home to stay after school and gather in the school pickup area where the instructor will be located.  Parent pick up will be at the Swift River pavilion unless otherwise notified.   School nurse/school staff are not present for this after school program.

Grades - Kindergarten  Come join the fun process based art as we explore and work with a va4riety of materials such as paint, crayon, paper, cardboard and clay.  Our focus will be on the process and the creative experien e while building fundamental skills. Grades 1-3 Join us for after school arts! We'll be practicing our skills and knowledge of the elements of arts and design.  We'll explore and look at works of art from different types of artists and will create our own.  This class is meant to promote creativity and practice skill building in a fun and relaxed environment. Grades 4-6 Join us for after school arts! We'll be practicing our skills and knowledge of the elements of arts and design.  We'll explore and look at works of art from different types of artists and will create our own.  This class is meant to promote creativity and practice skill building in a fun and relaxed environment. The goal is to encourage an opportunities for creative expression and learning. All materials will be provided. Please bring an allergen friendly snack and water bottle.*Participants will need to bring a note to school to stay after.*The school will dismiss participants and allow them to go to the Cafeteria or directly to the classroom.*If School has early dismissal due to inclement weather, class will be canceled for that afternoon and the instructor will reschedule.*School nurse/school staff are not present for this after school program.  Our Saturday Summer Tinker Arts group will do a little bit of everything! Students will have the opportunity to explore a variety of materials and techniques. We  will experiment with painting, printmaking, drawing, sculpture and collage!   July 1-5 (No July 4th) - The summer Tinker Arts group will explore working with different fiber materials to make beautiful summer themed projects! We'll use different materials like wool, silk and cotton to make our projects for the week!
